Trunk Layout and Design
The trunk of the Grand Am VT is always the center of attention for actual tailgates. The trunk is the target of most eyes and ears during pre-game activities from audio and video entertainment to a little bit of gawking. The lid of the trunk features a 19" LCD screen for video entertainment and the polished design holds all of the functional components of the sound system including amps, crossovers, and additional speakers.
Trunk Lid Shroud, 19" LCD, and VT Speakers
The trunk lid shroud is a custom fiberglass mounting piece that is painted to match the exterior body color of the vehicle. Mounted on this piece are 5.25" speakers and 19" LCD television which display at a 90 degree angle when the trunk is open. Cut out of the shroud are two VT openings backed by white speaker grill mesh to create the Virginia Tech look.
Amp Rack and Hokies Logos
The amp rack is a wood constructed and fiberglass wrapped base which has mounts for each of the three orange JL amps. The rack is also equipped with clear and transparent orange plexiglass inserts painted with the HOKIES text. These inserts are backlit at night by two high power orange strobe lights.
Trunk Equipment Well
The floor of the trunk is actually a false maroon carpeted floor with a rounded trapezoid cut out which opens up into an equipment well which holds each of the four crossovers that are connected to the main JL amp and JL VR525 speakers. This well contains a orange box which is lit by orange neon lighting. Painted on the plexiglass cover for the well is the reverse VT athletic logo.
Custom Sub Box and Fiberglass
The custom sub box contains both of the Kicker 10" subwoofers and is carpeted with maroon carpeting. Covering the front of the box is a custom curved fiberglass facade painted orange which is enclosed by a false wall custom shaped to fill out the gaps in the trunk - also carpeted in maroon. Hidden behind the sub box is a deep-cycle battery and the A/V control units.
